In Vivo NMR Spectroscopy

In Vivo NMR Spectroscopy: Principles and Techniques, 2nd Edition
Robin de Graaf

ISBN: 978-0-470-02670-0 Hardcover
584 pages
December 2007

This is the second edition of a unique book in the field of in vivo NMR covering in detail the technical and biophysical aspects of the technique.

The contents of the book are appropriate to both beginners and experienced users of in vivo NMR spectroscopy. The new edition is focussed on bringing the reader practical insights and advice, but is also geared towards use as a study aid and in NMR courses. Recent advances in NMR spectroscopy, like high field NMR, hyperpolarized NMR and new localization and editing techniques have been included. An extensive and updated treatment of radiofrequency pulses is given, together with several tables and recipes for their generation.

The exercises that accompany the second edition of this book were designed along three different lines of thought. First and foremost, a significant number of exercises are aimed at highlighting specific problems encountered during real experiments. Particular focus is given to observations that are not immediately obvious from theoretical considerations. Secondly, many exercises are an extension of the text in which, for example, the derivation of a particular equation is considered in more detail. Finally, a number of exercises are designed as a hands-on experience, detailing the considerations and assumptions of a particular experiment. These exercises are crucial to the deeper understanding of in vivo NMR spectroscopy. This is especially true for users on many commercial MR systems, where a large part of the basic operations have been automated. The reader is encouraged to solve all exercises and provide the author with feed-back in case of erroneous or incomplete solutions at invivonmr@hotmail.com.
