The Kowalski Prize is awarded each year, and alternates between the 'best theoretical paper' and 'best applied paper' published in the Journal of Chemometrics in the previous two years. This year was the turn of the 'best applied paper' which was awarded to de Juan, Maeder, Hancewiz and Tauler for their paper entitled, "Use of local rank-based spatial information for resolution of spectroscopic images" (J Chemometrics 2008, 22, 291-298).
This yearly award honours the many contributions of the former Editor-in-Chief and Founding Editor of the Journal, Bruce Kowalski.
Worth $1000, the Kowalski Prize will be presented to the winners later in 2009.
Their paper is available to view here free of charge to spectroscopyNOW.com users until the end of December 2009.
