Yulia Monakhova wins best chemometrician award at WSC-7
[March 5, 2010 Oxana Ye. Rodionova]

At the Seventh Winter Conference on Chemometrics (WSC-7) held in February in St Petersburg, Russia, the Wiley Special Award for the Best Presentation by a Young Chemometrician was awarded to Yulia Monakhova, a PhD student from Saratov State University (Saratov, Russia), for her oral presentation "Analysis of complex mixtures using self-modeling decomposition of different spectral data". (All the conference abstracts and attendees can be viewed here.)

Yulia can be seen here collecting her award certificate from Dr. Sc. Alexey Pomerantsev (Russia, chair of Russian Chemometric Society), along with Professors Marcel Maeder (University of Newcastle, Australia) and Sylvia Paul (University of South Africa).

Yulia wins a year's free online access to the Journal of Chemometrics.

Yulia told spectroscopyNOW, "Firstly, I would like to thank the organizing committee for giving me the opportunity to make an oral presentation during WSC-7. I would like to point out that the whole atmosphere of the meeting was friendly to young scientists because they can get acquainted with leading scientists, learn about latest trends and share their experience and research results. I was very surprised and delighted when I won the award. In fact, there were a lot of interesting presentations made by young scientists. I am very grateful to the awards committee for their high estimation of my report and the quality of my research work."

She continued, "I really appreciate John Wiley for providing me free access to the Journal of Chemometrics. It is known that it is the leading journal in the sphere of statistical methods and their practical application. I often use it during my research. It will also be very helpful during preparation of lectures and practical studies with masters students in Saratov State University. It is chance to get up-to-date information about all aspects of chemometrics."
