Obesity and LDL proteins 
Obesity is associated with changes in the protein composition of low-density lipoprotein (LDL), as well as high levels of LDL cholesterol, according to scientists in Sweden. The transport protein transthyretin was found to be enriched in LDL from obese subjects and may be linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular disease. [July 1, 2009]

Proteomics in globe artichoke: Protein extraction and sample complexity reduction by PEG fractionation  [registered users only]
The first leaf proteome analysis for globe artichoke is reported, removing the highly abundant leaf protein RuBisCO to improve spot resolution of the less abundant proteins. In all, 841 distinct protein spots were detected. [June 22, 2009]

Prospective biomarkers are too common 
A review of proteomics studies in the literature covering five species has revealed a common set of differentially expressed proteins, representing a set of regularly detected protein families. Many are linked to stress response, and their use as biomarkers of any other condition should be considered with caution. [June 15, 2009]
