The US Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) is to unveil a new report on the role of intellectual property rights (IPRs) in encouraging upstream R&D and downstream commercialization in biotechnology at the BIO international convention in Boston on 19 June. Entitled Taking Stock: the gains of global biotechnology research from IPRs, the report discusses how IPRs have affected innovation and the development of new biotechnologies, and asks whether they encourage collaboration between academic and industrial R&D centers.
