The RAA Congress meetings promote Raman spectroscopy and play an important role in the increasing field of its application in Art and Archaeology.
The Congress is one of the most important events in the field of scientific research on cultural heritage, worldwide, as it is a gathering of many scientists from the most prestigious institutions, such as Museum Conservation Institute (MCI), Smithsonian Institution, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, Getty Conservation Institute, LA, Art Institute of Chicago, University of Buenos Aires, National Museum of China, etc. and Raman spectroscopy experts from all leading European institutions.
During the RAA events, many valuable presentations (oral and poster) on the development of Raman spectroscopy in the cultural heritage field have been introduced, which resulted in a great advancement on the application of the technique to the field. The importance and the quality of the Congress are further evidenced by the publication of the scientific contributions in Special Issues of a respectable spectroscopic periodical Journal of Raman Spectroscopy (John Wiley & Sons, Inc.) following each of the Congresses.
This year's Congress will feature keynote speakers from Howell G. M. Edwards (University of Bradford), Costanza Miliani (Istituto CNR di Scienze e Technologie Molecolari, Perugia), Marco Leona (The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York), to Sandrine Pagès-Camagna (Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France).
The Scientific Committee, consisting of the established scholars from the field of Raman Spectroscopy in Cultural Heritage, already selected hundred of scientific contributions to be included in the Programme. The Authors will present their latest scientific findings in oral presentations or in the form of poster contributions.
Some of the well-known companies in the field of optical instruments have already confirmed their participation and will present their latest innovations.
Because this year's important emphasis is also to support young scientists, a special award will be given to the best younger scientist’s poster by the Molecular Spectroscopy Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry, London.
