A new report published by MarketsandMarkets estimates that the global proteomics market will be worth $17.2 billion by 2017, allowing for restrictions due to the current economic slowdown. The report, entitled "Proteomics Market (Protein Microarray, Mass Spectrometry, NMR Spectroscopy, Chromatography, Electrophoresis, Surface Plasmon Resonance, Protein Fractionation, X-ray Crystallography, Immunoassay) - Instruments, Reagents and Services - Trends and Global Forecasts to 2017", predicts a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.2% until that year.

The market was broken down into instrumentation technology, reagents, and services and each of these categories was further divided into segments and sub-segments to give an exhaustive value analysis for 2010, 2011 and 2012 and forecasts up to 2017. Currently, the largest market areas geographically are North America, Europe and Asia. The market in India and China is predicted to register maximum growth through to 2017, whereas the North American and European markets will grow more slowly due to a combination of economic factors, including market saturation.
