Bruce Kowalski, founding editor of the Journal of Chemometrics and chemometrics pioneer, passed away on December 1, 2012 at his home in Colorado and at peace with his loving family.

Bruce was a visionary leader. He saw great opportunities for chemometrics and was an ardent advocate for transforming analytical chemistry through the application of chemometrics to real-world problems.

Through his efforts he helped to quickly establish chemometrics as an important, recognizable, and distinct discipline that brought innovative changes to the practice of analytical chemistry and measurement science.

He inspired two generations of chemometricians. His influence, energy, and enthusiasm will be greatly missed.
