An article in the latest issue of The Scientist Magazine provides an overview of how scientists are using the latest laboratory information management systems (LIMS).  In the main, it comprises case studies on three scientists who are using LIMS to manage the data generated in their laboratories. The case studies are on: Christopher Meyer at the Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C, US, and his work sequencing entire ecosystems;  Scott Weiss at Harvard Medical School in Boston, US, and his work on the genomic analysis of respiratory diseases; and Martin Eisenacher at Ruhr University in Bochum, Germany, and his work analyzing the proteome to find novel disease biomarkers.
