Accelrys, a US provider of software for scientific innovation, is aquiring Vialis, a Swiss supplier of laboratory data management systems for the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, for $5 million. According to Accelrys, Vialis's experience in developing and implementing paperless laboratory solutions will strengthen Accelrys's position in the laboratory informatics software market and expand its capabilities in the downstream analytical development, quality control, and quality assurance and manufacturing areas. Under the terms of the acquisition, Accelrys may make a further payment of up to $5 million if Vialis meets certain growth objectives over the next three years.
'With demonstrated success in improving laboratory operations by integrating core software systems critical to improving innovation – including electronic laboratory notebooks, laboratory execution systems, and laboratory information management systems – Vialis brings key domain and delivery expertise to Accelrys, and we welcome them to our team,' said Accelrys president and CEO Max Carnecchia.
