The exciting day in November when the Philae probe left its parent craft Rosetta and landed on comet 67P Churyumov-Gerasimenko has been recognised by Physics World as the World Breakthrough of the Year. This event beat off competition from nine other landmarks in physics.

In celebration of the award, Physics World will be hosting a Google Hangout with members of the Rosetta team on Friday 12 December at 14:00 GMT.
