According to a new report, the global bioinformatics market will almost quadruple in size over the next six years, from $2.3 billion in 2012 to $9.1 billion in 2018. Much of this growth will be driven by pharmaceutical companies continuing to outsource their requirements for bioinformatics platforms and services. Other major users of bioinformatics platforms and services include agricultural biotechnology companies, and medical and clinical diagnostic companies.

North America is currently the largest regional bioinformatics market, but the report predicts that the European market should overtake it by 2018, driven by fast growth in European countries such as Germany and the UK.

The report, entitled Bioinformatics Market – Global Industry Size, Market Share, Trends, Analysis and Forecast 2012 – 2018, is published by Transparency Market Research.
