rssUnderstanding NMR Spectroscopy
Date: May 2, 2012
Author: James Keeler
James Keeler, Editor-in-Chief of Magnetic Resonance in Chemistry, discusses the high-resolution NMR of liquid samples, concentratring exclusively on spin-half nuclei (mainly 1H and 13C). It is aimed at people who are familiar with the use of routine NMR for structure determination and who wish to deepen their understanding of just exactly how NMR experiments work.

Read MoreMass Spectral Libraries - Reproducibility in EI, API and Tandem Mass Spectrometry
Date: May 15, 2009
A number of publications have recently appeared in which attempts have been made to determine the reproducibility of tandem mass spectra libraries. For several decades libraries of EI spectra have been used successfully for compound identification, especially from GC-MS data, while, in contrast, many difficulties seem to be present in trying to achieve the same success for tandem mass spectrometry data. This short essay attempts to answer the question of why this difference should occur, what is it about...
Read MoreA Simple Device for Cleaning Many NMR Tubes Simultaneously
Date: Oct 21, 2008
NMR tubes are widely used in organic chemistry. Cleaning a few tubes after use is not a big problem but cleaning hundreds of tubes is a demanding task in terms of time and use of solvents. Here is presented a simple nmr tube cleaner that can clean and dry hundreds of tubes in a short time with minimal exposure of the user to solvents. The tube cleaner is easily assembled from equipment normally present in the organic chemistry laboratory.
