Paper spray mass spectrometry has been applied to measure five Sudan dyes simultaneously in chilli pepper within 60 seconds, providing a green, high-throughput method that could be used in quality control labs.
A microbore enzyme reactor constructed from a hollow fibre that is linked directly to an LC/MS system has been designed for the online digestion, purification and analysis of low amounts of proteins.
View All EzinesJames Keeler, Editor-in-Chief of Magnetic Resonance in Chemistry, discusses the high-resolution NMR of liquid samples, concentratring exclusively on spin-half nuclei (mainly 1H and 13C). It is aimed at people who are familiar with the use of routine NMR for structure determination and who wish to deepen their understanding of just exactly how NMR experiments work.

Quantitative proteomics studies are challenging as high sensitivity and a high degree of selectivity are required to analyze systematically large peptide sets in one single experiment. Quantification of peptides in complex samples can be performed on a quadrupole-orbitrap instrument in MS/MS mode (parallel reaction monitoring, PRM). The high resolving power of this technique dramatically increases the selectivity of the measurements while the trapping capability can be leveraged to boost the sensitivity.
