Quest Diagnostics, a US provider of diagnostic information services, has opened its new clinical test laboratory in Marlborough, Massachusetts. On the same day, Quest also announced an agreement with Siemens Healthcare to automate the new laboratory, allowing it to process several thousand patient blood samples an hour.

When fully operational, the new facility will house 1350 employees, who will use analytical techniques such as chromatography and mass spectrometry to conduct a wide range of diagnostic and testing services. The facility will also house an R&D center, which will focus on advanced technologies, such as next generation sequencing, as well as neurology, reproductive genetics and other specialized medical fields.

'Our "lab of the future" will set a new standard in diagnostic information services – not just for our company, but for our industry,' said Steve Rusckowski, president and chief executive officer of Quest Diagnostics. 'It reflects a unique model for delivering innovative health services of the highest possible quality and value in order to create a healthier world.'
