Overview
The application of LC-Tandem Mass Spectrometry for the low-level determination of estrogens in serum often involves complex sample derivatisation procedures in order to deliver the required level of analytical sensitivity.
This clinical research webinar describes two ground-breaking LC-Tandem mass spectrometry strategies to eliminate sample derivatisation whilst still achieving the required levels of quantitation. In the second part of this presentation, we will explain how sample preparation can be further simplified by exploiting the SelexIONTM Differential Ion Mobility Spectrometry device to remove endogenous interfering species whilst maintaining analytical precision and accuracy.

Tom Fiers: Biography
Dr. Tom Fiers is a clinical pathologist in the University Hospital of Ghent, Belgium and is responsible for the hormonology department of the lab. As a tertiary care institution, the hormonology department has a long standing experience for steroid hormone analysis both for clinical use and research. In recent years the focus of the lab has increasingly shifted to LC/MSMS analysis. This has led to the development of a portfolio of reference assays for sex hormones and their precursors, and research on the physiological action of sex hormones and free and salivary hormone balance.

Bruno Casetta: Biography
From 1971 to 1979 worked as Analytical Chemist at the Governmental Laboratory of Udine (LPIP-Italy).
In 1979 joined Perkin-Elmer, renamed Applied Biosystems and lastly AB Sciex, as
- 1979-1985: application specialist for Atomic Spectroscopy, and General Appl.Lab. Manager
- 1985-1987: application specialist for Laboratory Robotics
- 1987-1990: application specialist for ICP-Mass Spectrometry.
In 1990 appointed as application specialist for LC-Mass Spectrometry with European role
Since 2000, appointed as Senior Application Specialist of Clinical Applications of LC-MS with European/Worldwide role (now appointed as Principal Scientist)
Due to the recent splitting of the Mass Spectrometry business of Applied Biosystems, he belongs to the new AB Sciex Company and works in a satellite lab located in Pordenone (Italy) for developing new clinical applications in Mass Spectrometry.
He has produced more than 70 peer-reviewed papers, the most recent ones are listed below. Member of Collège of Professional Technical Engineers (n.646 of Collège of Pordenone - Italy).
