The latest in a series of tutorials prepared under the International Proteomics Tutorial Programme has been released: Basics of mass spectrometry based metabolomics.

The programme was initiated by the Human Proteome Organization (HUPO) and the European Proteomics Association (EuPA) as an education tool for students at the Masters / PhD level and comprises a series of open-access articles in four proteomics journals accompanied by slideshows which can be downloaded. They are published in four major journals, the latest one appearing in Proteomics.

The tutorial outlines the history of metabolomes before explaining the concept more fully and examining how mass spectrometry can be used to reveal the secrets of the metabolome, supported by a case study.
